Team Introduction
The core team is comprised of graduates from the Waseda University Laboratory of Ichiro Kato and Shigeki Sugano, which boasts a world-leading history and track record in humanoid robot research.
In addition, experts from the following universities are participating in the project as technical advisors:
University of Tokyo
University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley)
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Stanford University
University of Southern California (USC)
National Taiwan University
Tsinghua University (Beijing)
Technical Challenges
The core challenge we are tackling is “how to achieve natural, lifelike movement and emotional expression within a consumer-oriented cost structure.” Specifically, we are tackling the following challenges, which are considered highly difficult even within the industry:
Compliance control of multi-degree-of-freedom joints under extremely low cost constraints
Silent drive design within a limited volume
Lightweight emotion-generating AI operating on the edge (locally)
Current Phase
We have completed the development of the first-generation POC (Proof of Concept) unit and, based on that, have completed a pre-A round of funding raising over 150 million yen. We are currently in the development phase for the mass-production model.
